About the Challenge
The Road Trip Innovation Challenge was launched in September 2021, aimed at finding digital solutions to help people navigate our Tourist Drives and get the most out of tourist road trips in NSW. Recommended datasets for this challenge included NSW Tourist Routes, NSW Rest Areas, and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in NSW.
Problem Statement(s)
- Create a digital solution that improves the tourism and road trip experience in NSW
- Create or enhance data related to road trips that can be published as Open Data
Outcomes
Two digital apps were chosen to progress through the incubation phase: Gourmakers and CamperMate.
Gourmakers helps users to find the best gourmet venues to visit on their next Australian road trip, making it easy to plan a route than includes points of interest.
Through the incubation process, Gourmakers was able to implement a range of new features into the app in order to provide an improved user experience, including the Trip Planner function, which provides a unique route plan for road trips based on current location and desired destination.
CamperMate is a free camping and travel app containing camping and RV-specific information to help customers find everything they need while on the road in NSW. Through the challenge, road trip map overlays were added into the app's existing digital infrastructure to enhance user knowledge of NSW Tourist Drives and provide a menu of road trips.
